GMM’s Women Empowerment Project: Women play multiple roles in their
life, the ability to have voice & influence and to
enjoy opportunities & choices are critical to lead these roles
successfully. Women empowerment enable women to attain the
capabilities and opportunities without which women are less able to
reach their full potential, live a life of dignity, and be productive
citizens. Women empowerment thus has been our focus amongst all other
developmental programs. GMM wishes to start four Women Empowerment projects in the month of
September. The primary aim of which is to help women arrange for their
children’s education, at the same time enabling them with a steady
monthly income and access to short term loan from their own pooled
savings. Sustainability is the key for this project and principles of Income,
Saving and reinvestment are the pillars of its success. Here business
model for Palm reselling is combined with Village Saving and Lending
model which has been a foundation for success in many African and
Indian self help groups. The outcome is a business model that needs
support for first 4 months after which it will be self financed and
will sustain for its life time. Women will have a steady flow of
monthly income, a disciplined saving every month which they will pool
together and this pool will be available to them as a cheap and hassle
free short term loan. Margin earned on selling the oil and Interest
earned on the savings will help grow the capital asset. Thus at the
end of the 1st year they will be able to gather a sum big enough to
meet their children’s education cost.
As this project is due to commence in September we are urging people
to help us raise money for it.
A sum of 900 USD per group will support it for lifetime. A sum of 3600
USD will change life of 40
